Creating a Community of Lifesavers

Thank you to everyone who joined our FREE CPR session and how to join us next time

This week, we were delighted to welcome members of our local community to our first FREE CPR and Lifesaving Training sessions at Southend Coastal Surgeries.

First and foremost, a huge thank you to everyone who attended. We know that giving up an evening to learn something new is not always easy, but seeing so many people actively get involved, ask questions and, most importantly, get down on the floor and have a go, made the session incredibly rewarding.

Our sessions cover:

  • Adult CPR
  • Child CPR
  • Baby CPR
  • How to recognise a cardiac arrest
  • How and when to call 999
  • How to use a defibrillator (AED)
  • What to do while waiting for emergency services
  • How to respond to choking emergencies

Book your free place – open to everyone

Our goal is to train 1,000 people in our community in lifesaving skills by Christmas 2027, and every person who learns CPR makes Southend a safer place. All sessions are free, no experience is needed, and you do not need to be registered with Southend Coastal Surgeries. Every session is led by our own GPs and advanced practitioners. Bring a friend, a partner or a grandparent.

Upcoming sessions, all at Southend Coastal Surgeries, Norton Place, Shoeburyness, are listed on our website.

  • Tuesday 3 November 2026, 6:30pm is our next session

Places are limited to 30 per session and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Book your free place here.

Attendees asked us to share the guidance behind the session. Rather than rewrite it, we have linked straight to the official guidelines and flowcharts from the Resuscitation Council UK at the end.

This page is a reminder of what you practised, not a replacement for hands-on training. In a real emergency, always call 999 and follow the instructions of the call handler, who will talk you through what to do.

We Hope You Left Feeling More Confident

Our hope is that everyone who attended left feeling that lifesaving skills are not as intimidating as they might first appear.

You don’t need to be medically trained. You don’t need special qualifications. You just need the confidence to step forward and try.

As we always say during our training, doing something is almost always better than doing nothing.
